Originally part of Wallingford, Cheshire, CT was settled in 1694, known as New Cheshire Parish, becoming an independent town in 1780. As an early settlement in New England, our community is home to several National Register of Historic Places sites, like the Cheshire Historic and Marion Historic Districts, the Farmington Canal Lock, and the First Congregational Church of Cheshire.
As one of the first planned cities in the United States, New Haven, CT is the third-largest population center in the state and home to world-renowned Yale University. After being a co-capital of the state until 1873, Hartford took sole governance, while our community became the cultural capital of Connecticut.
Diversity of cuisine, which includes Malaysian, Ethiopian, Spanish, Belgian, French, Greek, Latin American, Mexican, Italian, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean, Indian, Jamaican, Cuban, Peruvian, Syrian, Lebanese, and Turkish selections is available in more than 120 restaurants within two blocks of the New Haven Green, our city’s central plaza.
Yale University contributes a great deal to New Haven’s culture through film and theatre as well as museums and music. Our annual festivals like the New Haven Jazz Festival, the International Festival of Arts and Ideas, the New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Powderhouse Day, the Wooster Square Cherry Blossom Festival, and Film Fest New Haven attract a significant number of visitors to our community.
Better hearing makes it possible to fully enjoy the cultural opportunities available in our community, and the AVI New England clinic in Hamden provides the trusted hearing care to make that possible.
